General Questions
What are faux wood blinds made of?
Faux wood blinds are made from a composite of PVC and wood fibers, or in some cases 100% PVC. This construction gives them the look and texture of real wood while making them resistant to moisture, warping, and cracking. They are significantly more durable than real wood in humid environments like kitchens and bathrooms.
Are faux wood blinds as good as real wood blinds?
For most rooms and climates, yes - and in some ways better. Faux wood will not warp, crack, or fade from humidity the way real wood can. They are also easier to clean and cost less. Real wood has an advantage in very wide windows (over 72 inches) where the lighter weight of real wood slats can reduce sagging. For all other situations, faux wood is the smarter choice. See our full faux wood blinds buying guide for a detailed comparison.
Do faux wood blinds look cheap?
No. Modern faux wood blinds closely replicate the grain texture and finish of real wood. From a normal viewing distance across a room, most people cannot tell the difference. The key is choosing the right color and finish for your space - our blinds are available in a range of wood-tone and painted finishes to suit any interior style.
Sizing and Fit
What slat size should I choose - 2 inch or 2.5 inch?
2-inch slats are the most popular and work well for standard windows in any room. Choose 2.5-inch slats if your windows are wider than 48 inches or your ceilings are 9 feet or taller - the larger slat will look more proportional and let in more light when the blinds are raised. See our 2-inch faux wood blinds collection.
What is the maximum width for faux wood blinds?
Our faux wood blinds are available up to 96 inches wide as a single blind. For windows wider than 72 inches, we recommend considering a center split (two blinds on one headrail or two separate blinds) to reduce sagging and make operation easier.
Can I get custom sizes?
Yes. All AiryBlinds faux wood blinds are made to your exact measurements in 1/8-inch increments. There is no standard sizing - every blind is custom made for your window. Shop custom faux wood blinds.
Measuring
How do I measure for inside mount?
Measure the width at three points - top, middle, and bottom - and use the narrowest measurement. Measure the height from the top of the opening to the sill. Enter the exact narrowest opening width. Do not deduct 3/8" yourself - AiryBlinds applies the production allowance automatically. See our full measuring guide for step-by-step instructions.
What if I measure wrong?
Double-check your measurements before ordering using our measuring guide. Because all blinds are custom made to your specifications, we are unable to accept returns on incorrectly measured orders. If you are unsure, contact us before ordering and we will help you verify your measurements.
Moisture and Cleaning
Are faux wood blinds good for bathrooms?
Yes - they are one of the best choices for bathrooms. Faux wood is moisture-resistant and will not warp or swell from steam and humidity. We recommend cordless operation for bathrooms for safety and cleanliness. Shop bathroom faux wood blinds.
Are faux wood blinds waterproof?
They are moisture-resistant but not submersible. They handle steam, humidity, and light splashing without damage. For windows in direct contact with water (next to a shower), consider our PVC blinds which are 100% waterproof.
How do I clean faux wood blinds?
Wipe slats with a dry or slightly damp microfiber cloth. For grease buildup (common in kitchens), use a mild dish soap solution on a damp cloth. Do not soak the slats or use abrasive cleaners. For a quick dusting, close the slats and wipe from top to bottom, then reverse the slat direction and repeat.
Safety
Are cordless blinds safer for children and pets?
Yes. Cordless blinds eliminate the looped cord that poses a strangulation risk for children under 10 and pets. All AiryBlinds cordless faux wood blinds meet current U.S. child safety standards. We strongly recommend cordless for any room where children or pets are present. Shop cordless faux wood blinds.
Do you offer motorized blinds?
Yes. Motorized faux wood blinds are available and can be controlled via remote, app, or smart home system. Contact us for motorized options and pricing.
